The Business Department evolved from Economics Department, which was first started in 1981 and was renamed Business Department in 2005. Currently it comprises of three concentrations: Ecommerce (online commerce and online marketing), International Trade, Finance management (financial management and credit management). Currently there are 1232 students. It grows and produces all kinds of graduates, who end up becoming pillars in trade, finance and other industries.
The business department has a well-structured teaching staff who are experienced and of high caliber. Currently it has 41 teaching staff, among which are two professors, 13 associate professors, 11 lecturers; One with post-doctorate degree,two with Ph.D degree and 17 with master degree. In addition, we invite experts, directors and executives from government, big or medium enterprises to give talks and seminars on campus.
For 25 years after its establishment, the department has accomplished a lot in areas of teaching and research. For example, its Ecommerce major was qualified as “National Ecommerce professional qualification Institute” by the State Department of Social Labor and Welfare; it also won the second place in Best Teaching Award by the university. The International Trade major was classified as the teaching reform experimental major of Fujian province and won the first place in the “Best Teaching Award” given by the university. The Finance and Accounting department was twice awarded the second place in the “Best Teaching Award” given by the university. The teaching staff of the department has published almost 200 papers in prestigious or core journals of the nation. They have participated in writing 21 textbooks, 9 of which won the second prize in the national tertiary education texts for finance, the second prize in Huadong district book of excellence, first prize in Fujian province social and scientific achievement, third prize in Xiamen social and scientific achievement.
The Business Department has been sticking to its motto of “Application and society-oriented”, emphasizing the combination of theory and application. It focuses on nurturing talents who are application-oriented and boasts outstanding facilities. In addition to sharing the public lecture rooms, it also has various labs for economics, labs for entrepreneurship in ecommerce, nation-wide tertiary institutions ecommerce and e-politics lab Xiamen branch, accounting labs, multimedia labs etc. We have also established partnerships with various companies, which function as the internship base for our department, and the partnership also helps boost the local economy.
